Step Aside Halloween: October is National Dental Hygiene Month
Fall is in the air and cooler temperatures have arrived in our area. And with the arrival of October, Halloween will soon follow. Many folks, especially kids, have Halloween on their mind and are looking forward to the many goodies near the end of the month. But October is for more than tricks and treats. We also observe National Dental Hygiene Month at this time of the year!
Our in-office anecdotal research suggests that adults tend to buy a little additional candy for trick-or-treaters each year. Why? Because adults tend to like sweets, too, but you knew that!
We’re not only concerned about the dental hygiene of kids. We care about adults’ oral care, as well. So, what can we all do to celebrate National Dental Hygiene Month? Let us share a few ideas.
When brushing, be sure to make contact with all sides of your teeth, and don’t forget your tongue. Additionally, aim for two minutes of brushing twice per day; however, if you can reach two-and-a-half minutes each time you brush, you’ll ensure a deep cleaning, which will keep our dental hygienists at Oak Bark Dental very happy.
Finally, if it’s within your finances, you can consider purchasing a high-quality electronic toothbrush that will help improve your dental hygiene efforts. There are products on the market that connect via Bluetooth to your phone that can help point out which areas of your mouth are not being brushed as well as others. These types of toothbrushes also have settings that will help you reach the two-and-a-half-minute brush time you could try targeting.
We would be remiss if we didn’t recognize the efforts of our team – our hygienists, specialists, and administrative support – during National Dental Hygiene Month. It is because of their commitment to our patients that we are able to continue to serve our community.
Leave the tricks of the season to the kids and schedule an appointment to see Dr. Palmer and her team today! They’re always ready to help you manage your family’s dental hygiene.
